Chris was born to Polish immigrants who came to Canada in 1955. At the age of 10, Chris started his formative musical training as a chorister at St Michael’s Choir School, enjoying rich choral experiences at the Cathedral and on tours throughout Canada and Europe.
There he started his studies in organ and earned his ARCT degree in organ performance. He continued studies at the University of Toronto where he also earned a degree in French language and literature.
He started his career as an organist at the age of 16 in Toronto. He has performed many solo organ recitals and adventurous organ collaborations with flautists, violinists, cellists, oboists, clarinetists, brass and timpani ensembles, harpists, guitarists and his wife Catherine, a talented soprano.
In September 2019, he left his 28-year post as Director of Praise at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Barrie.
As an educator, after returning to teach at his alma mater, he went on to enjoy a 31 -year career as a High School French Teacher. Chris and his wife, Catherine have two children, Sofia, a filmmaker and Thomas, a doctoral candidate in Physics. They have enjoyed small-town Ontario in Penetang, Barrie, Bradford, and now Fort Erie. They enjoy motorcycling and camping.
With over 30 years of experience as an accomplished organist and choral conductor, he is committed to preparing inspiring liturgical music in a variety of styles ranging from plainchant to Gospel. An educator he strives to enable choristers to achieve their personal best.
He sees the focus of the Music Ministry to proclaim the greater glory of God. Hymn-singing is a powerful experience. When the congregation is inspired to give their all on the final verse, the unanimity of spirit is tangible. Music can powerfully depict the wonder, the mystery, the suffering, the awe, the greatness and the joy of our God amongst us. Chris is eager to explore the ever-expanding universe of music together with the choir and congregation at St Paul’s.
